Aaron Donald Contract | Los Angeles Rams |
HT: 6-1 WT: 285 Age: 25 Seasons: 3
Status: Under Contract for 2017 + Fifth-Year Option (Projected)
Aaron Donald Scouting Report
He’s the most dominant interior defensive lineman in the NFL, as well as one of the league’s best players. He’s an athletic force on the inside and lives in the offensive backfield with his quickness and first-step. He has great change of direction skills. Possesses great strength and has natural leverage due to his height. He’s damn near unblockable and is dominant against the pass and run. His motor always runs hot, and he’s always around the football. He’s also yet to miss a game in his three-year career.
If you identify any, please let me know. He had size concerns coming out of college but has alleviated any and all of those. He’s a truly dominant player on the inside.

Aaron Donald Contract Comparables
Los Angeles Rams BATNA
The team can pick up Donald’s Fifth-Year Option then franchise him twice to retain his services for three years below market value.
Aaron Donald Leverage
Not only is he the most important player on the Los Angeles defense, but he is also the best player on the team. He’s the type of player that no team can afford to let go. The team does have all the leverage it needs to keep Donald in town for the next three seasons, which is the same situation as Cox and Dareus were in when they inked their extensions. Suh had by far the most leverage of any of the comparables. The only reason he ever hit free agency was an abnormal $26.9-million franchise tag number due to his enormous rookie deal thanks to the prior Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Speaking on a new Donald deal, Rams General Manager Les Snead stated that “it’s definitely coming.” He also added “The guy deserves a raise, there’s no doubt. Whether he gets a raise or not, he’s going to show up, do the things he does. But that is coming.”
That it is, sir. That it is.
Aaron Donald Reservation Price
On the open market, Donald would easily become the league’s highest-paid defensive player. Kawann Short’s FOF projection came in at six years and $110-million, and although he is one year closer to free agency, he’s also not the player that Donald is. Even without the leverage, he will look to become the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL. However, Suh’s contract will probably remain the outlier until another big name hits the free agent market.
Aaron Donald Contract Projection: 6 years, $114,000,000; $19,000,000 AVG, $32.75M FG, $65.25M GTD
